Keeping Up Personal Appearances
Filed under UncategorizedMar 15Our entire society is absolutely obsessed with celebrity culture. The first decade of the twenty-first century passed quickly in a haze of paparazzi and glossy mags. The twenty-first century really has been synonymous with the rise and rise of celebrity. As if their presence in every magazine and newspaper as well as their dominance of the TV wasn’t enough, celebrities are increasingly making personal appearances.
You just can’t escape celebrities. I’m not just talking about those pseudo-celeb Z listers who were on Big Brother four years ago. People who are famous for more than just being famous are doing it too. Almost anyone is available for bookings.
I wonder what brought on this trend. I had naively assumed that celebrities were too busy to attend parties and supermarket opening with us mere mortals. How wrong I was. Perhaps it’s the effects of the credit crunch on their Prada purse strings; the celebrity at your party comes at a price after all. I’m sure there’s competition between certain celebrities and their rivals to be seen in the most exciting clubs, at the best parties being photographed as frequently as possible.
However, not all celebrities can be the same. There are other types of celebrity who have something to contribute. I mean the celebrities who are famous for their skills: cooking, acting, campaigning. Celebrities like this can make personal appearances interesting. Some celebrities do use their personal appearances to positively influence others, by encouraging people to support charity for examples. Some just like to meet their fans.
It’s easy to assume that personal appearances are all attractive women on stage in clubs. There’s nothing wrong per se with using appearances like that to promote businesses. But it should never be assumed that that’s all personal appearances can do. Some celebrities have more to say than we realise and feel strongly about major issues. Maybe you’re looking for a simple personal appearance to fill your club next Saturday; good for you, I’m sure it’ll help. But don’t turn you back on celebrity appearances altogether. Scratch the surface and you might find a celebrity appearance can really boost your cause.
